What these guides are, and what they are not

These are study guides for the written knowledge tests. Tank (N) and doubles/triples (T) have no federal entry-level driver training requirement at all — study, then test. Passenger (P) and school bus (S) do have an ELDT requirement, and it includes behind-the-wheel training that an online provider cannot deliver. For those two, use these guides to prepare for the written test and complete your ELDT with a provider that offers behind-the-wheel.

Rules on thresholds and distances vary by state and change over time. Always confirm against your current state CDL manual before testing.

Still working on your permit?

Endorsements come after the CDL itself. If you do not have your permit yet, start there.
